Care / Help

One of the great privileges and benefits of being part of a church is both giving and receiving care in a family of faith.  From time to time, life overwhelms us with difficulties, illness, loss, or tragedy.  In those periods, church folk can surround you with care and prayers, offer a shoulder or words of encouragement, or share your burden.

Prayer Request / List
The pastors and prayer partners at FPC consider it an honor to pray on your behalf.  We would add your request with those of many others through our weekly, emailed update, the Chitter-Chatter.  If you desire, however, your prayer request can be kept confidential.  There are multiple ways to share a prayer request:
fill in a prayer request card in sanctuary worship
contact a pastor by phone or email

Meet with a Pastor
The pastors at FPC are always privileged to meet with you in celebration, support or crisis.  They have been clinically trained and bring years of experience.  In times of hospitalization or of particular crisis, please let them know as they will want to support or visit you. In other types of need, please open the conversation and feel welcome to meet with one of them.

Pastoral Counseling Service
From time to time, individuals require more support than sessions with a pastor can provide.  That support may relate to the need for more expertise in an involved situation, the need for more anonymity, or may simply offer an alternative approach.  The Pastoral Counseling Service allows us to address those needs.  The Rev. Dr. Charles Van Wagner, a licensed Christian counselor, receives referrals and individual inquiries and is available by appointment on Tuesdays, 252 292 2468.

Stephen Ministry  Contact: Claire Colcord, 252.243.3115, claire@firstpreswilson.com  Our first class of Stephen Ministers will be commissioned on October 16 to provide Christ-centered care for folks facing crisis on a one-to-one basis.

Everyone goes through difficult times.  Having someone to care, to listen, to share God’s love can help get one through the confusion, stress, or loneliness.  Don’t struggle alone.

If you’d like to be a Stephen Minister or would like a Stephen Minister to care for you or a friend, contact Claire.
